About The Spookatorium

The idea of a roadside Museum of Curiosity has always appealed to me. The Spookatorium is my nod to that…

There’s no dark ride here, no midnight movie house, no elaborate miniature golf course full of bizarre obstacles, no dusty oddities or head scratching curios… but I hope to bring you just a little of that spirit.

The show began in September 2006 as a collection of dark and odd music spanning everything from Experimental Noise to Black Metal to Cabaret to Country and the generally unclassifiable. Through the first 14 episodes, it remained simply that. Episode 015, released in August 2007, introduced things of Fortean interest into the mix, and that continued until the Spookatorium went silent in October 2008 with Episode 026. This entire archive is available here. There are some interesting stories and lots of great music in those shows.

Fast forward to September 2011, the five year anniversary of the show. I missed doing it, ideas and opportunities lingered in the back of my mind, and I couldn’t find anything quite like it to listen to.  After much deliberation, I decided to reopen.

In this latest incarnation, Weird Tales and Supernatural Horror will also have a place. This may include some cross-posted content from my primary site here on the pages, and I hope the voices and tales of the writers, artists and musicians with connections to that history will also be present.

Content on the Spookatorium has always been handled with a sliding scale of seriousness. I’m not an expert, I’m not a scholar – I am curious, and I’m passionate about the things that make me curious. I’m also happy to say I’m not always right, and neither are you.
